Lyon moves closer to glory
Lyon inched closer to a seventh successive Ligue 1 crown on Saturday night after coming from behind to win at Strasbourg.
The hosts, who remain in the relegation zone, took a surprise lead after 21 minutes through Wason Renteria but the dismissal of Eric Mouloungui on the stroke of half-time stalled their momentum.
Lyon made full use of playing against 10 men and, after equalising through Mathieu Bodmer shortly after the hour mark, snatched all three points when Italy full-back Fabio Grosso put them in front after 68 minutes.
The win moves them seven points clear of Bordeaux, who visit Toulouse on Sunday. Lyon have four games remaining and Bordeaux five.
At the other end, Strasbourg are three points adrift of safety.
Despite their lowly placing, Strasbourg started well and almost opened the scoring after two minutes, Mouloungui's header brushing the post.
Lyon's reprieve was short-lived, however, as the hosts netted 19 minutes later.
Kader Keita gave the ball away to Pascal Johansen, whose cross was headed home by Renteria.
Lyon offered little in the first half with their best chance coming after 27 minutes, Keita crossing for Karim Benzema to fire in a volley which home keeper Stephane Cassard saved well.
Benzema later limped off clutching his knee after a heavy challenge from Pierre Ducrocq.
Despite playing well in the opening 45 minutes, Strasbourg finished the half on the back foot when Mouloungui was sent off after picking up his second yellow card.
Renteria was denied a second by a smart save from Gregory Coupet after 53 minutes before Lyon dragged themselves level.
Keita redeemed himself for his earlier error with a left-wing corner which Bodmer nodded in.
And the turnaround was completed when Keita again supplied the corner from which Grosso glanced in at the near post.
Strasbourg were deflated and Lyon almost added a third in the final minute, a trademark free-kick from Juninho producing a fine save from Cassard.
